Week 58: Georgia, Home of Incredible Peaches and Awesome Investigators!

This week has been great!  The highlight of the week was for sure Sunday!  Daniel and Joi both came to church and tons of people in the ward reached out to them and made them feel welcome.  Daniel was talking to us before sacrament meeting started and he was asking us where he could get "a nicer copy of the book of Mormon, or a leather one," and also where he could pay tithing... so amazing!  The talks in sacrament meeting were awesome.  The high councilman focused on the importance of following the promptings of the Spirit when making decisions and when trying to improve our lives, which was so perfect for both of them to hear.

Another highlight was teaching an investigator we have recently started working with named Desiree. We read 2 Nephi 31 with her and the Spirit was so strong as we talked about baptism!  We also went out to lunch with one of my favorite ladies from Fayettville. We stopped at a fruit stand where there were selling peaches from South Georgia, and they were the best peaches I have ever had in my life.

We were walking to an appointment on a street where we had knocked on doors previously in the week. A lady was out working in her yard, and yelled, "Were ya'll the ones who left the card on my door the other day?"  Then she went on to say that she was sorry she didn't call us but that she would really like to meet with us! It was such a cool, tender mercy.  Friday we went on exchanges with the STL's and ended up sitting in a Toyota car dealership for 7 hours -_-.

We had a really great lesson with Joi this past week.  It’s incredible to see her perspective changing.  She told us that everything in her life is looking up since we've been coming to visit.  She smiles so much more- the gospel truly does bring lasting happiness!

Overall it was a great week, and we are excited that we get to stay together this next transfer.  There are crazy changes happening all over our mission, but, thankfully, things are staying the same here in Newnan.  Thanks for all the love and support!

Week 57: Greetings from Georgia!

Greetings from Georgia!  This week I have really been focusing on studying with all of my "heart, might, mind, and strength." I feel like I get so much more out of it when I have questions or when I’m looking for answers to become a better missionary or a better person.  I've been trying really hard to have the mentality of, "How can I change as result of what I have learned today?"  It has been a huge blessing to see myself changing and growing everyday.  There was a quote I wrote in my Book of Mormon this morning as I was reading that says, "While the Lord will magnify us both in subtle and dramatic ways, he can only guide our footsteps when we move our feet" (Marion G Romney). I know Heavenly Father wants His children to be growing and moving in a positive direction, but he can't help us unless we are willing to do our part.  We have been trying to help our investigators understand this concept.

We went out teaching for the day with a girl from the ward who is going to leave on her mission in about a week. We had a lesson with an older lady who we've been trying to contact for a while.  It is amazing to see how so many people come from so many different backgrounds but that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is meant for everyone.

We had Zone Training and I always love to hear from President and Sister Foote. I have such a strong testimony that they are exactly what our mission needs! There was a convert of about six months that spoke to us and told us that when he was growing up he used to make fun of the LDS kids. He had a rough life and after being in and out of jail he took a step back and thought about where he wanted to be. He thought about those kids he used to make fun of, and he wanted what they had.  It was so cool to see that by simply living the gospel we are affecting those around us for the better!

Catherine is still doing well.  She has been gone spending time with her grandma who has cancer. She is hoping to move which would be an amazing thing considering her neighborhood is pretty scary.  She was just telling us that ever since she's had the gospel in her life so many new doors have opened to her.

I am so grateful I have Grandad to look to as a role model.  He was such an amazing example of dedicating his life to missionary work, and I hope to emulate many of his qualities in my own life.  I know that he is teaching the gospel in the Spirit World.  I hope the funeral goes well, and although I wish I could be there, and I know he would want me right here in Georgia. Thanks for everything Mom and Dad - love you both!

Week 56: Happy 4th of July!

We had a great lesson with an investigator that we have been working with for the past couple of weeks, and he is super solid in keeping commitments and wanting to learn!  He and his daughter came to church on Sunday.  During the Sunday School lesson, I don't even remember what was said right before, but he said, "I can feel myself changing, and I think I have the Holy Ghost in my life more since I've starting meeting with ya'll." Literally, both Sister Thompson and my jaw just dropped.  It is amazing to see how the gospel can change people for the better.

At church on Sunday, not only did Daniel and his daughter come, but a new investigator we found, Joi, and her daughter came! We met Joi and her daughter a couple of weeks ago, and we asked her if there was anything in her life we could specifically pray for, and she said, "Pray that I don't kill everyone in my house because they are being so annoying!"  So that’s exactly what we prayed for - haha!   We came back about a week later and she invited us right in and told us her whole life story.  She said, "I'm not sure why I’m telling you all of this, but I trust you and I know you'll listen."  She came to church the next day, and it was a really neat experience!  She is one of the strongest women I have ever met.

We had a lot of members come out and teach with us this past week, and I just love being with them and hearing their testimonies.  Almost all the members we go out with are converts to the church and hearing them tell their stories of how they joined the church is so powerful.

A less active sister we have been working with for a long time has a lot of anxiety about coming to church and we have been trying to get her involved in other ways.  She loves to make jewelry and she did a jewelry activity with all the young women and loved it!  Everyone had such a good time and it turned out to be such an awesome activity!

It’s been great being Sister Thompson's companion.  We have such a good time together, and we get along so well.  She’s an incredibly hard worker,

and I’m lucky to get to serve with her!  Hope things are going well back home!

Love Sister Hunter
